Gunpowder Creek Rules

All S.A.S.S. rules apply unless superceded by a local rule. Please read and be familiar with the S.A.S.S. Shooter's Handbook before participating in a match. If you are attending your first Cowboy Action Shooting match, please notify the match director so that an experienced shooter can be assigned to assist you.

Any shooter wishing to participate must attend the safety meeting held prior to each match.

No person who has consumed alcohol or any other impairing substance will be allowed to remain on the premises of The Gunpowder Creek Regulators. This includes monthly matches, annual matches, or any other club sanctioned event.

Participants and spectators are expected to assist us in maintaining a family environment. Profanity and/or unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated.

Eye and ear protection are mandatory for all shooters and spectators. The Gunpowder Creek Regulators will provide you with free hearing protection and loan you safety glasses if needed.

We keep a cold range. That means the only place a weapon may be loaded is at the loading table under the supervision of a range officer.

We observe a 170 degree safety plane. Muzzles of all weapons must be kept within this safety plan when on the firing line. Anyone who uses a crossdraw holster must turn their body so the muzzle is always down range when drawing or holstering a pistol.

Long guns must be carried with muzzles straight up, or if on the firing line, down range. Actions must always be left open when not in use.

If you draw and cock a loaded firearm out of sequence, you may make it safe and continue with the course of fire.

No one may cross the firing line for any reason. If there is an immediate need to go down range, the Range Officer will call "Cold Range" and all participants will immediately stop loading or unloading weapons, and step away from tables. If you are involved in a stage when "Cold Range" is called, you must immediately cease fire and make your weapons safe. Only then may someone cross the firing line.

If your weapon malfunctions during a stage, safely hand it to the Range Officer and continue the course of fire.

Minor safety infractions, such as not turning to draw a pistol from crossdraw holsters, will result in a stage disqualification.

Major safety infractions, such as dropping a loaded firearm or discharging a round over the berm, will result in a match disqualification. When a match DQ is issued, the shooter must remove all of his/her weapons from the range and may not continue with shooting activities for that day. The shooter is not required to leave the range but may elect to stay and assist in working the remaining stages as long as they are not involved in scoring.

If you disagree with the RO's decisions you may appeal to the Range Master. Once the Range Master issues a decision, that decision is final and may not be argued further.

All participants are expected to be safety officers and should bring violations to the shooters attention.

As stated previously, all SASS rules apply. However, the Gunpowder Creek Regulators observe a local rule which provides shooters with a five second bonus for each stage shot without a miss.
